Check out my new blog Mishaps of Motherhood

Becoming a Mommy

Sorry blog-followers, but we've had a busy few weeks. For those of you wondering how the bathroom turned out, it's fabulous, but you'll have to wait for photos. I'm waiting till we get the curtain and mirror officially hung before I take any pictures.

Instead, I'm giving you something some of you will think is even better: pregnant girl photos. So there's not a lot to see here. In person it's much more impressive, but here you go: me at 16 weeks.

In response to my new roundness, I have moved into full-on nesting mode. While stopping in at Hobby Lobby to get some fabric to make a curtain for the bathroom, I happened to find a plethora of ridiculously cute fabrics with which to make baby blankets, dresses (if TK's a girl), etc. Sure, I don't actually have a sewing machine, nor do I know how to sew, but I figure there's a first for everything, and Marisa has informed me that sewing machines are not as expensive as I thought. If Mom can just teach me how not to sew my fingers, I may be well on my way!

Anyway, to keep track of all my new mommy-like tendencies, I bought ... a planner. OK, so I didn't go out looking for one. I really just wanted a tiny calendar to stick in my purse, but apparently they don't sell calendars (much less tiny ones) after January 1st. And then I saw this little beauty. Don't I look more organized just by having this on my table? I'm a little worried about the fact that it won't fit in my purse, and I really don't want to upgrade to the Mom bag just yet. Not unless I can find one that's really rock 'n roll ...

In other big news (and all the more need for a planner), I have a new job! Starting Monday, I am the Managing Editor of Portico magazine. For those of you non-locals, it's a Birmingham lifestyle magazine with great photography and (magazine-nerd alert) fabulous paper. It will just be a part-time gig for now (so if anybody has a fun job I can do in the afternoons, let me know), but I'm really looking forward to getting back to work. They have a great readership and it's always fun to learn more about the town I live in, since I realize each day that I know very little.

So on to new adventures! And random ob-la-di plug, if you haven't been in in awhile, you should stop by because we're having a killer sale. If we weren't trying to save money for baby-related items, I would be all over it ...

Congrats on the job! We really should come up with some walking routine a few days a week since we live so close!

abba, you are such a doll! you still look teeny tiny as ever, but you've definitely got that look on your face that something awesome is going on.

We've officially upgraded from "couple" to "family" with the addition of the best baby anyone could ask for—Axel Harrison Millwood. We're still living it up in Homewood, AL, trying to figure out how to act like parents and maintain what little sanity we had to begin with...
